EXPERIENCE

Matthew FischerMr. Fischer’s preferred area of practice is Condominium Law and related Civil Litigation. Called to the Bar in 2002, since 2004 Mr. Fischer has focused his practice on assisting residential and commercial strata corporations, owners, tenants and management companies with legal services and dispute resolution.

Mr. Fischer has appeared in all levels of Court in British Columbia, and has conducted a variety of Court proceedings on behalf of his clients, including complex multi-party strata litigation and litigation dealing with property use, repairs, bylaw enforcement, collections, governance, and actions for damages.

Mr. Fischer also assists clients with preparation and interpretation of contracts, leases and bylaws, and advises on governance and administrative issues, including but not limited to: bylaw enforcement, collections, building warranty and insurance issues, procedures for document disclosure, conduct of meetings, financial management, division of expenses and a wide range of other issues.

Using his technology background, Mr. Fischer uses advanced office equipment, electronic document storage, computerized research tools and specialized software to maximize efficiency for the benefit of his clients.

Mr. Fischer enjoys applying his experience, education and logic to sort through complex problems and issues, and finds satisfaction in assisting his clients with conventional or creative solutions to their legal issues.

EDUCATION

In 2007 Mr. Fischer completed the ‘Advanced Advocacy Skills Workshop Series’ offered by the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.

Mr. Fischer completed the BCAMI Part II “Conduct of Arbitration Proceedings” course in 2004.

He was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 2002 after completing his Bachelor of Laws in 2001 at the University of British Columbia.

Mr. Fischer’s undergraduate degree was in Philosophy with a minor in Sociology from Simon Fraser University (1997).

LEGAL COMMUNITY

Mr. Fischer has prepared and presented seminars on strata related issues for the Condominium Home Owners’ Association (CHOA) as well as the People’s Law School, and has contributed articles for the CHOA News quarterly magazine and the Scrivener, the journal for the Society of Notaries Public in BC. He has also prepared and presented in-house educational seminars for various strata management companies.
